CAIRO – 4 May 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a phone call with Massad Boulos, US President Donald Trump’s Senior Advisor on Arab, Middle Eastern and African Affairs, on Friday.

The two sides touched upon Egyptian-American bilateral relations and the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations, emphasizing shared interests across multiple sectors and joint efforts to promote peace and security in the Middle East and Africa.

They exchanged views on a range of regional issues, with a particular focus on developments in the Horn of Africa, Sudan, Libya, and eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Minister Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s perspective on the challenges to peace and security in Africa, stressing that sustainable solutions must be political rather than military. He highlighted President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s active role in promoting stability, reconstruction, and post-conflict recovery across the continent, underscoring the urgent need for increased international support to alleviate humanitarian suffering in conflict zones.

Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for peace and stability in Sudan and Somalia, while emphasizing the importance of upholding the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of both countries.

The discussion also reviewed the situation in Lebanon. Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s steadfast support for the Lebanese state, its government, and national institutions in their pursuit of security and stability. He firmly rejected any violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty and called for the full implementation of the cessation of hostilities agreement, the immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and the comprehensive enforcement of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 by all parties without selectivity.

Turning to Syria, Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting the Syrian people and preserving Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrike near the Presidential Palace in Damascus, describing it as a breach of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.

He stressed Egypt’s opposition to any Israeli interference in Syrian affairs and called for the launch of an inclusive political process involving all segments of Syrian society to guide the country through this critical period.

At the conclusion of the call, both sides agreed to maintain close coordination in the coming period, reflecting their shared commitment to addressing regional challenges and strengthening cooperation to achieve lasting security and stability in Africa and the Middle East.
