CAIRO – 2 March 2025: Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has reiterated Egypt's support for the Palestinian Authority (PA) and its role in Gaza as part of Palestinian territories, alongside the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
In a meeting in Cairo with Palestinian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Mustafa on Saturday, Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s efforts aimed at solidifying the ceasefire in Gaza and implementing all its provisions over its three phases.
Additionally, the two sides discussed recent developments concerning the Palestinian cause, including plans for the reconstruction of Gaza, emphasizing the importance of Palestinians remaining on their land, as well as preparations for the emergency Arab summit scheduled for Tuesday in Cairo.
Mustafa shared his perspective on reconstruction issues, including the expected outcomes from the conference that Egypt will host in cooperation with the United Nations.
He also provided assessments regarding the situation in the West Bank amid ongoing Israeli military operations in various cities and camps.
In January, the Palestinian Presidency announced that the government, under President Mahmoud Abbas’ directives, had finalized preparations to assume full responsibility in Gaza.
Last month, the Palestinian presidency also unveiled a plan for the future of Palestinian territories following the Gaza war, which includes assuming responsibility in the enclave and managing border crossings.
The PA’s plan emphasizes the need for general elections—both presidential and legislative—across Gaza and the West Bank within a year, contingent on prevailing circumstances.
Abbas is set to present this plan at the emergency Arab summit in the Egyptian capital.
