Egypt anticipates France, EU support to its Gaza reconstruction plan

CAIRO – 24 February 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty and his French counterpart Jean-Noel Barrot discussed Sunday over the phone bilateral relations and the latest regional updates.

Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of bolstering trade exchange, and French investments in the country. In a related context, the minister expressed aspiration that the second tranche of the EU financial assistance worth €4 billion would be endorsed soon. The value of the first trance was €1 billion, while that of the entire package is €7.4 billion.

The two top diplomats also exchanged visions and assessments of the updates in Gaza, where the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel is at stake. Abdelatty briefed his French counterpart on the efforts deployed by Egypt to stabilize the truce, ensure the completion of its three phases, and deliver humanitarian aid at an accelerated rate.

Additionally, he displayed the comprehensive plan being finalized by Egypt to carry out early recovery and reconstruction processes without displacing Palestinians, noting the existence of Arab support to that endeavor, and looking forward to that of France and the EU.
