CAIRO – 24 February 2025: Al Qahera News Channel broadcasted the opening session of the meeting between Libya’s House of Representatives and the High Council of State, held in the Egyptian capital.

Cairo hosted extensive consultations on Sunday involving 96 members of Libya’s House of Representatives and 75 members of the High Council of State. The discussions aimed at advancing the Libyan political process towards a comprehensive resolution that would end institutional divisions and pave the way for parliamentary elections. The participating parties expressed gratitude to Egypt for facilitating the dialogue.

The final statement reaffirmed Libya’s sovereignty over its political process, emphasizing that all efforts must be conducted through official institutions. It also highlighted the importance of continued engagement between the two councils through joint meetings, with a commitment to implementing the outcomes of the March 10, 2024, tripartite meeting in Cairo, sponsored by the Arab League.

The statement underscored the necessity of restructuring Libya’s executive authority to support a unified governance framework and facilitate the transition toward elections.

Additionally, the statement stressed the importance of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) while insisting that its role must remain within the framework of its founding mandate, which is to support Libyan institutions in accordance with the political agreement.
