The British Library witnessed the launch of the Books Without Borders initiative, which called on publishers to donate children's books written in the Ukrainian language, to be given to refugee children arriving in the UK.

The Books Without Borders initiative is part of the work of the Ukrainian Embassy in the United Kingdom, launched by the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, with the aim of printing books and distributing them to Ukrainian refugee children throughout Europe.

The initiative aims to reduce disruption to education, as well as the anxiety of young refugees who are adjusting to a new life in a country they may not be familiar with.

According to the media, 16,000 books printed in the UK were donated after the Ukrainian embassy requested help to support refugee children in the UK, as Ukrainian publishers donated book copies for 16,000 picture books, novels and other titles suitable for readers aged 3 to 17 general.

At an event at the launch of the initiative at the British Library, Zelenska joined the guests via video technology, saying: "Books not only entertain and educate us - they also unite us and bring us back to a sense of home. This project is our victory on the cultural front, and it comes close to our fundamental victory."

“We can bring home Ukrainian children in the form of books. We called this project Books Without Borders where Ukrainian books can travel with Ukrainians to any country they need.. Embassy of Ukraine in UK.. I am grateful to everyone who contributed to this project. Displaced Ukrainian children will now be able to enjoy a small library at home."
