Sotheby's, for international auctions, in London, includes the "Middle East Art" auction, eighty-three works of the most sought-after artists of Arab, North African, Iranian and Turkish origin extending from the modern era to the contemporary period. Among the paintings offered for sale, the painting "Tariq bin Ziyad" by artist Mahmoud Afifi, and the price of the painting was estimated between 8 to 12 thousand pounds, and it was sold at 8 thousand pounds. Tariq bin Ziyad is an Umayyad general of Berber origin who made history in the late century 7th and early 8th century, most biographical records classify him as a former slave who slowly gained fortune before eventually leading the Umayyad army himself. His notable role in the Muslim conquest of the Iberian Peninsula earned him a lasting offspring in the Arab and Spanish collective imagination. Tariq is primarily known for having led a large army from the northern Moroccan coast straight into the heart of Spain.


The painting of the artist Seif Wanly, which comes without a title, was also shown, and it was estimated for sale between 40,000 and 60,000 pounds, and it was sold at an auction of 40,000 pounds.


The painting "The Harvest" by the artist Ingy Plato was also shown, and it was estimated for sale between 10 to 15 thousand pounds, and it was sold at 13 thousand pounds. Engy Plato (1924-1989) is a leading Egyptian painter, whose practice is closely related to her involvement in feminist and Marxist movements. Born in Cairo to an aristocratic family, she showed an early interest in drawing and studying under the artist Kamal Al-Talsany. He introduces her to the surrealist and cubist movements, and Plato finds herself among the first participants in the exhibitions of the "Art and Liberty Group".

The artist Hamed Nada's painting, titled An Intimate Relationship, was also sold for 80,000 pounds. Hamed Nada (1924-1990) was strongly influenced by folkloric traditions and Sufi beliefs that were orally circulated in the historic Al Khalifa neighborhood in Cairo.
