CAIRO – 14 July 2025: The leaders of Egypt and Angola met on Sunday on the sidelines of the Seventh Mid-Year Coordination Meeting (7th MYCM) of the African Union (AU) in Equatorial Guinea’s capital of Malabo, where they discussed peace and security in the African continent.
The two leaders reviewed strategies for reinforcing stability across the continent as they discussed the Horn of Africa, Sudan, the Sahel, and the Nile Basin files.
Sisi praised Angola's current presidency of the AU and its commitment to enhancing collaborative efforts across various sectors in Africa.
Meanwhile, Lourenço expressed his appreciation for Sisi's leadership and Egypt's pivotal and historical role on the continent and within the AU framework.
The two presidents’ conversation touched on ways to strengthen Egyptian-Angolan relations and explore broader avenues for cooperation in various fields.
They highlighted the momentum of the growing ties between the two countries and collaboration to achieve their aspirations for prosperity and development.
The 7th MYCM of the AU commenced today in the presence of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Sisi’s participation in the coordination summit, which is usually limited to a few African leaders, comes in light of Egypt's chairmanship of the North African Regional Capability and its leadership of the Steering Committee of Heads of State and Government of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD).
During the summit, Sisi will spotlight Egypt's efforts to develop the work of the two mechanisms, which will strengthen peace, security, and their connection to development and stability goals in Africa.
