Issam Darwish awaits the inauguration of a statue he designed by Mahmoud Yassin in Port Said

Sculptor Essam Darwish, Professor of Sculpture at Helwan University, said that he is preparing to inaugurate a statue of the late great artist Mahmoud Yassin in downtown Port Said, adding that he is looking forward to the bronze statue on a granite base to be strong and capable of facing erosion and volatile weather conditions.

And Essam Darwish added, in exclusive statements to Youm7, that it is expected that the statue will be inaugurated in a distinguished location in the valiant city due to the popularity of the late artist Mahmoud Yassin in his hometown, adding that it is expected that the statue will be placed in front of the Port Said Culture Palace in the heart of the city.

Essam Darwish explained that he had previously designed a statue of Saad Zagloul in Port Said, pointing to the keenness of Governor Adel Ghadban to provide all possibilities for the production of artworks aimed at beautifying the city in the best way.

Darwish praised the spirit that he encounters when designing artworks in Port Said, stressing that the people of Port Said have a high artistic taste and love art and accept it because of the spirit they carry that loves beauty, praising the spirit of cooperation that he finds there when setting up his artworks.

The sculptor, Essam Darwish, had designed the statue of the entrance to the Suez Canal, stressing that the idea of ​​creating the statue focused on expressing Egypt because the area in which it will be established is international, where ships from all over the world cross.

He added that in the end, the choice fell on the statue of a woman as the greatest expression of people's cultures, as well as a symbol of sacrifice and giving, citing artworks that called for sculpture in the world and that women have always chosen a symbol of nations such as the Statue of Liberty in the United States of America.

He said that the ores of the statue are made of bronze, and he chose bronze because it lives for longer periods, pointing out that on the other hand, it was erected with a height of 10 meters, which is the highest height of a statue in Port Said, pointing out that the base of the statue is made of granite, a kind of solid materials of value, which gives value to the statue and preserves it.
