Egypt set to host international conference on Gaza reconstruction in November 2025

CAIRO - 17 October 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty held a phone conversation Thursday, with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper, to review the latest developments regarding the Palestinian cause and ways to enhance bilateral relations.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the two ministers reviewed the outcomes of the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit, which culminated in the signing of an agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

The British Foreign Secretary lauded the leading role played by Egypt in reaching the ceasefire agreement. She noted Prime Minister Keir Starmer's pride in participating in the historic summit and his appreciation for the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, which led to the summit's success and the initiation of a new path toward regional stability.

The ministers discussed the critical importance of the full implementation of Phase One of the Gaza war-ending agreement.

Minister Abdelatty stressed the necessity for both conflict parties to honor all their commitments.

He emphasized the vital need to move forward with Phase Two of the agreement, highlighting the paramount importance of the faithful execution of the U.S. President Donald Trump Peace Plan.

Abdelatty also reaffirmed the necessity of allowing humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip in quantities sufficient to meet the enclave's urgent needs.

Regarding the proposed Stability Support Force outlined in the peace plan, the Egyptian Foreign Minister underscored the need for a UN Security Council resolution to clearly define the mandate and powers of the force, in full coordination with the Palestinian side. He stressed the significant role of the UK and other permanent members of the Security Council in this matter.

The ministers also discussed British participation in the International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction, which Egypt plans to host in November in collaboration with international partners. Minister Abdel Atty expressed Egypt's anticipation of the UK's participation as a key sponsor and participant in this vital conference.

On bilateral affairs, the two ministers explored ways to develop relations between Egypt and the UK, including arrangements for exchanging visits at the highest level and elevating the relationship to a Strategic Partnership. They also stressed the importance of convening a high-level Egyptian-British Investment Conference to further economic, trade, and investment cooperation, serving the mutual interests of both nations.
