Dutch FM visits Rafah Crossing, praises Egypt's efforts to bring humanitarian aid into Gaza Strip Tue, Oct. 7, 2025
CAIRO - 7 October 2025: Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel expressed on Tuesday deep concern over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, praising Egyptian efforts to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid and medical evacuations.

During a press conference held in front of the Egyptian-controlled Rafah crossing gate, the Dutch FM noted that his country has allocated €25 million to support medical aid in Gaza in cooperation with its international partners. He emphasized that this step comes within the framework of supporting efforts to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of civilians.

Van Wiel expressed his hope that US President Donald Trump's initiative would contribute to improving conditions on the ground and fully reopening the Rafah crossing on the Palestinian side to facilitate the flow of aid.

Earlier on Sunday, Egypt delivered the 45th humanitarian aid convoy to the besieged Gaza Strip under the initiative “Zad Al-Izza... From Egypt to Gaza”, launched by the Egyptian Red Crescent.

According to Al Qahera News correspondent from Rafah, the convoy carried thousands of tons of urgent food and relief supplies. These included food baskets, flour, legumes, canned meals, medical supplies, personal care items, infant formula, blankets, drinking water, and more.

The correspondent noted that the entry of aid into Gaza continues to face significant obstacles imposed by the Israeli authorities. Many aid trucks are subjected to inspection by Israeli occupation forces and are often turned back to the Rafah crossing without any explanation.

The Egyptian Red Crescent previously affirmed its continued commitment to supporting the people of Gaza since the onset of the crisis. Over 35,000 volunteers have been working around the clock along the border to facilitate aid delivery.
