CAIRO – 21: September 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Singapore’s President Tharman Shanmugaratnam expressed their firm rejection of all attempts to displace Palestinians from their land on Saturday.
During their meeting in Cairo, Sisi highlighted Egypt’s efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinian residents, and release captives and prisoners, the Egyptian Presidency said in a statement.
“I have reaffirmed Egypt’s firm stance against the displacement of the Palestinian people from their land and against the liquidation of the Palestinian cause,” the president stressed during a press conference with Shanmugaratnam after their talks.
Sisi said he has found “a strong consensus with President Shanmugaratnam on our vision for ways to end the humanitarian catastrophe in the Gaza Strip.”
Reviving Two-State Solution
Sisi said he discussed with Shanmugaratnam “the dangerous turning point and exceptional circumstances” the Middle East is going through, especially with regard to the Palestinian cause.
Sisi stressed that a just and comprehensive peace and stability in the region cannot be achieved without granting the Palestinian people their legitimate rights, including the establishment of their independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders.
Shanmugaratnam commended the vital role played by Egypt, under Sisi’s leadership, in supporting regional stability and security.
Bolstering Cooperation
The two presidents’ talks sought to enhance relations between Egypt and Singapore.
Sisi emphasized the vast potential for developing economic and investment cooperation.
The discussions covered diverse cooperation areas including trade, port management, digital transformation, and cultural cooperation.
Meanwhile, the Singaporean president praised Egypt’s remarkable developmental progress and the promising investment opportunities it offers.
The visit witnessed the signing of several memorandums of understanding in the fields of agriculture, health, maritime transport, social protection, support for small and medium enterprises, strengthening economic partnership, and training of government personnel.
“During the meeting, we stressed the importance of activating the exchange of expertise and training programs, and building capacities in many fields of mutual interest,” Sisi stated.
He added that these fields notable include maritime and air transport, information and communication technology, governance, environmental protection, renewable energy, and others.
Sisi affirmed that Egypt and Singapore have made significant progress in these areas over recent years and that it would be beneficial for both sides to identify further avenues for cooperation.
In terms of religious collaboration, the Singaporean president expressed appreciation for the leading role played by Al-Azhar in promoting and teaching Islamic concepts to Singaporean students.
Inviting Sisi to Singapore
Shanmugaratnam extended an invitation to the Egyptian president to visit Singapore next year, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, an invitation which the Egyptian president warmly welcomed.
Highlighting the strength of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Sisi noted that Egypt takes pride in being among the first countries and the first Arab and African country to recognize Singapore’s independence in 1965.
“Egypt, alongside Singapore, laid the foundation for strong, enduring relations of friendship and understanding that continue to this day, and we look forward to further strengthening them in the future,” Sisi stressed.
