CAIRO – 17 September 2025: Egypt has played a pivotal role from the very first day of the Gaza crisis in leading the humanitarian response, under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, according to statements by Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty on Wednesday.

Abdelatty was speaking at an event organized by the Foreign Ministry in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity under the title “Egypt’s Response to the Humanitarian Catastrophe: Together to Keep Gaza Alive.”

The event was attended by a large number of ambassadors accredited to Egypt, along with representatives of UN agencies in Cairo and the Egyptian Red Crescent.

The Foreign Minister stressed that the Rafah border crossing has remained open from the Egyptian side around the clock to allow the entry of humanitarian aid into the enclave and to receive the wounded and the sick.

He noted that Egypt alone has provided 70% of the total aid sent to the Gaza Strip.

The top diplomat said the event is being held at a critical moment in human history, given the humanitarian tragedy facing the Palestinian people in Gaza, which he said amounts to genocide and ethnic cleansing.

Abdelatty lauded the role played by the Egyptian Red Crescent and its courageous volunteers, who, he said, have shouldered the duty of humanity and set a unique example of sacrifice.

They have worked tirelessly around the clock to collect aid and facilitate its entry into Gaza despite obstacles imposed by the Israeli occupation, he added

The Foreign Minister urged the international community to keep pressing Israel to agree to a ceasefire and allow unrestricted humanitarian aid into Gaza, warning that the scale of the crisis requires immediate and serious global action.

He described the ongoing famine as deliberate, with children dying from hunger while the world watches.

The top diplomat noted that the blockade has intentionally cut off food, medicine, water, and electricity, turning daily life for over two million people into a nightmare aimed at forcing displacement and ending the Palestinian cause.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s position against any attempts to force Palestinians from their land and warned that no justification—moral, legal, or political—can excuse pushing an entire population to leave its homeland.

He also criticized recent Israeli attacks on Arab territory, including a strike on Qatar, which is working with Egypt and the United States to help stop the violence.

Additionally, the minister stated that the world cannot stay silent while Gaza is left to suffer alone, calling such silence a moral failure and warning that political cover for these actions will not be forgotten.

Abdelatty affirmed that Egypt continues to work with international and regional partners to stop the violence in Gaza and push for an immediate ceasefire.

He described the situation as a humanitarian disaster, adding that no real solution is possible without a political track that ensures the creation of a Palestinian state based on the two-state framework.

He welcomed the upcoming conference on the two-state solution in New York on September 22 and called for more European and Arab countries to recognize the State of Palestine.

According to Abdelatty, this is not a symbolic move but a necessary step to prevent any country, especially one that refuses peace, from blocking the path to justice.

The minister added that the Palestinian people deserve a clear message from the world that they have not been abandoned. He warned that silence in the face of ongoing suffering is itself a failure.

He also saluted the Egyptian Red Crescent and its young volunteers, calling their work a sign of Egypt’s commitment to humanitarian support. He extended thanks to international partners who supported those efforts through aid and cooperation.
