Egypt’s FM calls on Germany to press Israel over ending Gaza war

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty Tue, Sep. 9, 2025
CAIRO - 9 September 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty urged Germany on Tuesday to increase pressure on Israel to halt its military operations in Gaza and end its violations in the occupied West Bank.

This came in a phone call with his German counterpart Johann Wadephul, during which Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s rejection of Israel’s continued aggression against the Gaza Strip, warning that the worsening humanitarian crisis had reached famine levels due to systematic starvation policies.

The call came as part of ongoing consultations between the two ministers on regional issues, including the situation in Gaza and developments related to Iran’s nuclear program.

The top Egyptian diplomat condemned Israeli settlement expansion in the West Bank, calling it a clear violation of international law. He also warned that the growing escalation across Palestinian territories threatens to destabilize the wider region.

Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza and to ensure the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid. He urged the international community to take concrete steps to stop Israel’s actions and hold it accountable for violations in both Gaza and the West Bank.

He expressed hope that Germany and the European Union would play a more active role in pushing Israel to comply with international humanitarian law.

On Iran, the two ministers also discussed the importance of restarting negotiations between Tehran and the International Atomic Energy Agency. Abdelatty said Egypt remains committed to supporting diplomatic efforts aimed at reaching a sustainable agreement that serves the interests of all parties and helps restore regional stability.

He emphasized the need to return to dialogue and the negotiating table, stressing Egypt’s belief in diplomacy as the best path to resolving the Iranian nuclear issue.
