CAIRO – 30 August 2025: A U.S. Senate delegation visited the Egyptian side of the Rafah border crossing on Saturday, amid the ongoing Israeli war on the Gaza Strip.
Democratic Senators Chris Van Hollen and Jeff Merkley inspected the Egyptian Red Crescent's aid logistics center at the Rafah crossing, according to Al Qahera News channel.
During the visit, the North Sinai Governor, Major General Khaled Magour, responded to inquiries about the volume of aid blocked by Israeli authorities. He stated that while there is no consistent average, trucks are frequently denied entry—sometimes entire shipments are rejected. “Egypt will continue sending aid to Gaza, and we will never give up,” the governor affirmed.
Governor Magour revealed that more than 5,000 aid trucks are currently waiting in logistical centers, with large quantities of food at risk of spoiling due to prolonged delays caused by the Israeli blockade.
The U.S. Senate delegation praised Egypt’s ongoing efforts to facilitate humanitarian assistance to Gaza, despite what they described as the “intransigence and arbitrariness of the Israeli occupation forces” in obstructing aid delivery.
Al Qahera News correspondent Mohamed Adel, reporting from the border, noted that Israeli forces prevented aid vehicles from entering the Kerem Shalom crossing, citing a public holiday on the Palestinian side. However, he confirmed that Egypt had been fully prepared to facilitate aid entry, with all logistical arrangements in place.
The death toll from the Israeli aggression on Gaza has risen to 63,371 Palestinian martyrs and 159,835 injuries since October 7, 2023, after hospitals received 66 martyrs (including 4 recovered) and 345 injuries over the past 24 hours, said the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza on Saturday.
