CAIRO – 27 August 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty discussed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip during a phone call he received Tuesday from his Spanish counterpart José Manuel Albares.
Additionally, the two ministers praised the distinguished relations between both countries and reviewed means to develop them in various fields.
In this context, they addressed the upcoming visit of the King of Spain to Egypt, which reflects the depth of the relations between the two countries.
The two ministers praised the rapid growth in relations, especially after the official visit by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Spain in February 2025, which saw the elevation of bilateral ties to the level of a strategic partnership.
The two top diplomates also had a lengthy discussion about the developments in Gaza.
They agreed on the extreme gravity of the current situation, warning of the expansion of Israeli military operations in the occupied Palestinian territories and the unprecedented deterioration of humanitarian conditions.
Abdelatty stressed that the Israeli crimes have exceeded all limits and that the European Union must take specific and effective measures to compel Israel to abide by international law and norms.
For his part, the Spanish top diplomat said his phone call comes in the context of his keenness to hear Egypt's vision regarding the developments in Gaza, especially before an informal meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Denmark at the end of this month.
Abdelatty reviewed a recently proposed Gaza ceasefire deal, which is based on a framework put forward by US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff in June.
It is now Israel's turn to respond to the proposal on the table that provides for 60-day ceasefire, according to him.
During this period, he said, negotiations should take place to reach a comprehensive settlement, end the war, release a number of hostages and prisoners, and allow for the delivery of humanitarian and relief aid.
