CAIRO – 2 July 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip during a phone call on Monday with the newly elected Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
The Egyptian President stressed the importance of leveraging the current regional de-escalation to reach an agreement that would halt hostilities and allow for the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave, reiterating that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, in line with international legitimacy, remains the only guarantee for lasting stability in the Middle East.
Presidency spokesman Mohamed El-Shennawy revealed that Sisi congratulated Carney on his recent electoral victory, which he said reflected the confidence of Canadian voters, wishing him success in his new role and expressing Egypt’s keenness to work with the Canadian government to further bilateral cooperation.
The two leaders discussed ways to strengthen economic, trade, and investment ties between the two countries, the spokesman added.
Both sides affirmed their commitment to exploring opportunities for cooperation across sectors of mutual interest, he stated.
