CAIRO – 9 February 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty headed Sunday to the United States to meet a number of officials at the "newly-elected" administration in the framework of reinforcing bilateral relations, strategic partnership and holding consultations on regional developments.
Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed, last week, the latest developments in implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza in a phone call with, Steve Witkoff, the US Special Envoy to the Middle East.
Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the call came within the context of continuous coordination and consultation between Egypt and the new US administration, and as a follow-up to the call that took place between President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and the US President Donald Trump on February 1, and building on the positive established between the two presidents.
The official spokesman added that the call witnessed consultations between Minister Abdelatty and Witkoff on the latest developments in implementing the Gaza ceasefire agreement, in addition to ensuring the full implementation of the agreement to put an end to the Israeli war on the strip
Moreover, Abdelatty stressed the need to sustain and consolidate the agreement, and to allow the biggest possible amount of humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza at an intensive and accelerated pace to alleviate the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the strip.
Furthermore, the official spokesman added that Minister Abdelatty highlighted the importance of the American role in ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, as well as finding a final settlement to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, achieving the desired permanent peace in the region.
