Zanaty Style education takes Japan by storm

CAIRO – 5 November 2018: Born to a family in Egypt’s Minya, Hussien Zanaty managed to tailor an educational system so good that it is now leading in Japan. Zanaty first implemented his system in Minya and then exported it to Japan.   In a session titled, "How do we build future leaders?" on the third day of the second edition of the World Youth Forum, Zanaty amazed the attendees with his system that has become known as ‘Zanaty Style’ in Japan.   His teaching system works to develop one’s personality, allowing them to be able to become leaders amongst their piers and ensure they understand the content so well that they are able to teach other students.   Zanaty built a three-phase program that was launched in 2015 in Japan.   “The first phase is when the student starts to build characteristics for his personality, like responsibility and leadership. The second phase is when groups of students share expertise and capitalise on information; different groups teach each other. The third phase is when students become productive: The student becomes the teacher. The student teaches a person who does not have access to a school or knows nothing at all about the topic,” Zanaty explained during the session today.   Zanaty, who has received an award from the Japanese Government for his work, first tried his educational system in Egypt’s Minya before exporting it to Japan.   During the session, Zanaty thanked President Sisi for strengthening the Egyptian-Japanese relationship.   “I would first like to thank President Sisi for the great strides he made with Japan. It really made a difference for Egyptians living in Japan that he visited in 2016 and that he announced the Japanese programs.”   “I am an Upper Egyptian man. I was influenced by three people: My dad, mum and older brother. When I moved to Egypt, I learnt that I have to adapt to those around me. I had to change to be able to continue there. I learnt Japanese and was able to get my PhD and also get the Best Researcher Award from my institute,” Zanaty explained.   Commenting on Zanaty leaving Egypt, President Sisi said, “ I do not blame you, not at all. It is our duty to focus the media on our pioneering teaching experiences. We are in need of such great initiatives in our society.”   For the second year, under the auspices of President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, the tourist attraction city of Sharm el-Sheikh is bringing together youth of all nations at the second annual World Youth Forum (WYF) from November 3-6 to deliver a message of peace and prosperity from Egypt to the entire world. According to the official WYF website, the registration process for the forum has been closed after receiving applications from more than 122,000 youth of both sexes across the world.

The Seven Pillars of the Egyptian Identity

This year, the Forum events will revolve around a vision inspired by “The Seven Pillars of the Egyptian Identity”, a book by one of the most political intellectuals in Egypt Author Milad Hanna; who received several international awards including three “Egyptian Pride” awards from the assembly of foreign journalists and correspondents in Egypt in 1998, the “Order of the Polar Star” award from the king of Sweden, UNESCO’s “Simon Bolivar” award and the state appreciation prize in social sciences in 1999. In his book; Hanna emphasizes the unity and harmony of the Egyptian society despite differences. In keeping with this approach, all the forum events will be held in the light of those pillars that envision the communicative nature of the Egyptian society that has managed throughout the ages to be a linking point between different societies. Building on the success of Egypt’s first international youth event in 2017, held under the theme “We Need to Talk”, this year the WYF is expected to witness the participation of approximately 5,000 young people from all over the world including international youth leadership figures, influential youth models in various fields, prominent international figures, youth groups from around the world and young Egyptian expats.
