CAIRO – 27 September 2025: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat emphasized that the localization of the manufacturing of systems, equipment, and electrical components within the framework of Egypt’s peaceful nuclear energy program is a top priority.
Esmat's remarks came during his meeting with Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation "Rosatom" Alexey Likhachev, First Deputy Director General of the corporation Andrey Petrov and Chairman of "Atomstroyexport", the company implementing the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of his participation in the High-Level Nuclear Energy Summit and the World Atomic Week in the Russian capital Moscow.
The purpose of the meeting was to follow up on the project's progress, implementation developments, and to confirm the timeline and scheduled dates for the start of operation of the nuclear units and their connection to the electrical grid.
The meeting also reviewed updates in the partnership and cooperation for localizing the production of electrical systems and equipment.
The meeting discussed the progress of work across all nuclear units, reviewed implementation rates, and ensured the levels of completion were aligned with the project’s overall timeline and schedule for each phase.
Preparations for receiving the reactor pressure vessel for the first nuclear unit at the El-Dabaa site were also discussed.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed areas of cooperation in scientific research, technology, training, capacity building, technology transfer, and industrial localization.
Esmat pointed out to the Ministry of Electricity's strategy, which is based on energy diversification, a balanced energy mix, and reliance on clean energy sources to reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
He emphasized that Egypt is among the leading countries in the field of peaceful nuclear energy applications and the role it can play in various scientific, industrial, and agricultural fields, highlighting the importance of this for achieving sustainable development.
He noted the continuation of mutual visits and meetings with the Russian side as part of ongoing cooperation, partnership, and coordination to complete the nuclear power plant project in El-Dabaa, in line with the state’s vision and energy strategy.
Esmat also underscored the importance of the nuclear project in ensuring the stability and continuity of the unified national grid and improving service quality.
He praised the longstanding and close historical relations between Egypt and Russia.
