CAIRO – 13 April 2025: Egypt expressed hope that recent talks between the United States and Iran will result in an agreement that addresses the concerns of both countries and ensures security and stability in the region.
In a statement on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Oman’s hosting of the first direct negotiations between the US and Iran, commending the cooperative approach demonstrated by both negotiating sides.
Egypt praised the American and Iranian sides for resorting to dialogue and negotiations, aiming for a political settlement that decreases regional tensions.
The statement expressed Egypt’s aspiration that these negotiations will usher in a new phase contributing to calm and reducing tensions, particularly in the Gaza Strip.
Egypt hopes the talks will facilitate a sustainable ceasefire and enable reconstruction in Gaza while ensuring that Palestinians remain on their land, the ministry said.
This new phase should also pave the way for a serious and credible political process aimed at establishing a Palestinian state and ending the ongoing conflict.
The ministry highlighted the vision articulated by US President Donald Trump, advocating for an end to international wars and conflicts.
Egypt urges leveraging this momentum to achieve a historic breakthrough that alleviates the suffering of the Palestinian people, which has persisted for over seven decades.
Cairo commended Oman for its vital and ongoing role in facilitating political and peaceful solutions to the significant challenges facing the region, while averting the threat of all-out war across the region.
Egypt reaffirmed its full support for Oman’s sincere efforts and all initiatives aimed at reaching political solutions through dialogue.
“This approach has long been championed by Egypt, grounded in the belief that military solutions are ineffective in resolving the crises afflicting the region and that the escalation policy only exacerbates the situation,” the ministry emphasized.
