Pres. Sisi, Eritrean FM discuss Regional Issues, Red Sea Security

CAIRO - 24 March 2025: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met on Sunday with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh to discuss latest regional developments, including the unfolding navigation crisis in the Red Sea.

The meeting was held in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty, and Director of the General Intelligence Service Hassan Rashad.

The Official Spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency Mohamed El-Shenawy stated that the Eritrean foreign minister conveyed greetings from Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki, which President El-Sisi valued.

The president underlined the strong relations between the two countries, and reiterated Egypt’s commitment to further strengthen these ties across all sectors.

The official spokesperson added that the discussions focused on the situation in the Horn of Africa and strategies for promoting stability in the region, which include joint efforts between Egypt and Eritrea, as well as the tripartite coordination with Somalia. In this context, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Somalia in its fight against terrorism and in safeguarding the unity and territorial integrity of the country.

The official spokesperson further explained that the meeting tackled the efforts to restore peace and stability in Sudan, protect the Red Sea, and enhance the governance and security cooperation among coastal states. Both sides rejected any involvement from non-coastal states in these matters.

In their meeting earlier on March 22, Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration Badr Abdelatty and his Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh also expressed their rejection of any involvement of non-bordering countries in Red Sea security and governance.
