CAIRO – 19 March 2025: Egypt strongly condemned on Wednesday recent Israeli strikes on Syrian territory, stating that they reflect Israel's "insistence on continuing to inflame tensions in the region."
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt emphasized that the Israeli strikes constitute "a serious escalation" and "a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity."
The Israeli army announced on Monday that it launched airstrikes in the southwestern city of Daraa, targeting military sites that it claimed posed "a threat" to Israel.
Three people were killed and 19 civilians were injured, including four children and a woman, according to the Syrian Ministry of Health.
“Egypt views the Israeli airstrikes on the sisterly Arab Republic of Syria as a continuation of efforts to impose a fait accompli, reflecting Israel's determination to continue inflaming tensions in the region,” the foreign ministry stated.
Egypt called on effective international actors and the UN Security Council to fulfill their responsibilities in condemning these repeated Israeli violations.
The ministry urged these parties to work towards "putting an end to the irresponsible Israeli policies and compelling Israel to end its occupation of Syrian territory and comply with the rules of international law."
Syria condemned the strikes as "part of a campaign waged by Israel against the Syrian people and the stability of the country."
In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Syria stressed that "the continued Israeli assaults on Syria not only constitute a violation of international law but also represent a direct threat to regional and international security."
Syria called on the UN, the Security Council, and all relevant international bodies to "act without delay" to put an end to these actions, which are "carried out without any deterrent and reveal Israel’s complete disregard for international laws and norms."
The latest Israeli attack adds to the hundreds of airstrikes that Tel Aviv has launched against Syrian territory over the past decade, both before and after the fall of Bashar Al-Assad in December.
Following the collapse of Assad’s regime, Tel Aviv deployed forces to a UN-supervised demilitarized buffer zone in the Syrian Golan Heights, expanding Israeli occupation of the strategic plateau.
