CAIRO – 2 March 2025: Egypt expressed rejection of recent endeavors to form a parallel Sudanese government, warning of the impacts of such actions on efforts to achieve national unity in Sudan as well as on the alleviation of the ongoing humanitarian crisis.

“Egypt expresses its rejection of any attempts that threaten the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of brotherly Sudan, including efforts to form a parallel Sudanese government,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Sunday.

The ministry added that such actions “complicate the situation in Sudan, hinder ongoing efforts to unify visions among Sudanese political forces, and exacerbate humanitarian conditions.”

Egypt called on all Sudanese forces to prioritize the higher national interest of their country and to engage positively in launching a comprehensive political process.

The ministry said this process should take place with no exclusion or external interference.

Last week, Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and their allies signed a charter in Nairobi, Kenya, preparing the grounds for the establishment of a parallel “government of peace and unity.”

The Sudanese Armed Forces has been battling the RSF since April 2023 with the army recently making significant advances and restoring control of key areas in Khartoum and central Sudan.

The war in Sudan has claimed the lives of tens of thousands and displaced around 12 million people, while leading to the spread of severe hunger and disease.

Sudan recalled its ambassador from Kenya in protest against Nairobi hosting a meeting to discuss the formation of this parallel government.

Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi asserted that the proposed government aims to restore peace, stability, and democratic governance in Sudan.

However, Sudan warned that the step to form a parallel government in Sudan would “expand and prolong the war” after the army and the supportive forces “have nearly eradicated the threat posed by the terrorist militia.”

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that the purpose of establishing the parallel government is to create a false front for the militia to acquire weapons directly.
