CAIRO – 18 April 2023: The flag carrier EgyptAir announced on Tuesday continuing the suspension of flights from and to Khartoum International Airport until further notice as deadly clashes in Sudan have continued for the fourth day in a row.
EgyptAir urges its customers who were scheduled to travel from and to Khartoum to check their booking by contacting the flag carrier on 1717 from inside Egypt and on +966122297777 from abroad.
Around 200 people have been reportedly killed in Sudan and more than 1,800 others were wounded as clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) entered its fourth day.
The world countries, including Egypt, and international institutions have called for an immediate ceasefire that would stop the bloodshed in Sudan.
Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has urged parties in Sudan to give priority to a peaceful dialogue and uphold the interests of the Sudanese people. Sisi also expressed Egypt’s readiness to mediate between Sudanese parties.
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has also called for the necessity of holding dialogue to reach a ceasefire as soon as possible, urging foreign parties to not intervene in the conflict, given that it is considered a domestic affair.
Egypt has around 10,000 citizens residing in Sudan, half of which are students, according to earlier remarks by Minister of Immigration Soha Gendy.
