CAIRO- 9 February 2022: Millions of people around the globe are suffering from poverty, hunger and malnutrition, which require the world to unite for achieving goals of sustainable development, said Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Al Sayyed Al-Qassir in his speech at the 36th Session of the FAO Regional Conference for the Near East, which convenes in Baghdad on February 7 and 8.
He added that there are many challenges against the sustainability of food systems, with varying severity from one region to another and from one country to another.
The Minister clarified that Egypt has adopted many initiatives aimed at achieving food security and treating malnutrition. One of these initiatives is the National School Feeding Program for Children, which aims to prepare school-feeding meals that contain all nutrients for school students.
He added that Egypt has also adopted other initiatives to eliminate diseases based on malnutrition, such as anemia and dwarfism.
The Minister previewed the presidential initiative of “Decent Life” as it aims at improving the livelihood of about 60 million citizens in 20 governorates, 52 centers, 1,500 villages, and 30,000 sub-villages.
The Decent Life initiative includes the establishment of agricultural, educational, health, cultural, religious and sports service projects, the Minister added.
He continued that other initiatives to reuse water, rehabilitate irrigational canals have been adopted.
