CAIRO - 1 December 2021: Egypt's Health and Population Ministry stated on Wednesday that 20,839,336 women were examined under the Egyptian Women's Health Initiative.
The initiative was launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in July 2019, Health Ministry Sokesman Hossam Abdel Ghaffar said.
The initiative is designed to screen carcinoma of the breast at an early stage for 28 million women governorate-wide; pursue clinical examination; and provide free-of-charge treatment.
Reproductive health, family planning, and healthy lifestyles remain at the core of the initiative.
Detection of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, blood pressure and obesity constitute an integral part of this initiative. Risk factors of non-communicable diseases and breast self-exam are also included in the initiative.
On November, The Ministry of Health announced screening 1.5 million women within the Maternal and Fetal Health Initiative launched in March 2020.
The presidential initiative aims to monitor the health of the mother and newborn until 42 days after birth.
The initiative provides a range of health services for the mother and the newborn, the most important of which are:
1- Early detection of infection of Hepatitis B, human immunodeficiency virus and syphilis for pregnant women.
2- Follow-up on the health status of the mother and newborn for 42 days, after pregnancy, to discover risk factors.
3- Dispensing the necessary micronutrients during the postpartum period.
4- Conduct blood sugar analysis and physical measurements.
5- Operate throughout the official working days from 8 am to 2 pm.
6- It includes a clinical examination to assess the general condition of the pregnant woman and the fetus.
7- Tetanus vaccination.
8- Measuring the length, weight and blood pressure.
9- Conducting various necessary analysis to detect anemia.
10- Determining whether or not the mother needs an Anti-D injection after childbirth.
11- Conducting a complete urine analysis to detect albumin and urinary system diseases.
