Today passes the anniversary of the departure of Saad Zagloul, who died on August 23, 1927, and his body rests in Saad's mausoleum, but this mausoleum has a story, the construction of the mausoleum began after the death of Saad Zagloul in 1927, and his remains were transferred to him after it was established nine years later.

What happened is that in 1927, following the death of Saad Zaghloul, the Egyptian government decided to erect a shrine for him to be built next to his house. Alexandria, I live in Raml Station.

Of course, the government's decision to erect the two statues and the mausoleum aroused the indignation of both the Royal Serail and the English; The Saray objected that Muhammad Ali Pasha the Great and his son Ibrahim Pasha had only one statue, and Khedive Ismail did not have any statue, so how could Saad have two statues? As for the British, an Egyptian newspaper reported at the time that they objected to this project, because they saw the statues and the mausoleum as a permanent stoke of patriotic feeling. However, some English officials denied at the time what was said about their government’s objection.

The construction was completed during the reign of Ismail Sidqi’s ministry in 1931, and he was one of Saad Zaghloul’s opponents, so he opposed making the huge mausoleum for one person, and suggested converting the mausoleum into a major cemetery that includes the remains of all politicians and greats. With only Saad, and I preferred that his body remain in the tombs of Imam Al-Shafi’i until the political circumstances change and allow him to be transported in a ceremony befitting his historical position as the leader of the nation.

The mausoleum was scheduled to be constructed and the body transferred to it within six months from the beginning of its construction (that is, before the middle of 1928), but the construction was not completed until 1931, and the remains of Saad Zaghloul were not transferred to the mausoleum until 1936, that is, nine years after his death The government submitted a draft law to “transfer the remains of the late Saad Pasha Zagloul to Saad’s tomb,” Law No. 53 of 1936. Parliament approved the law in its two chambers, and it was issued by the Regency Council, and the remains were transferred to the mausoleum in a majestic scene, on Friday. June 19, 1936 AD, corresponding to Rabi’ al-Awwal 29, 1355 AH.
