Dr. Khaled El-Anany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, held a meeting, via video conference technology, with Mr. Alain Bello, Vice President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development EBRD, to discuss the results of the cooperation strategy with Egypt in addition to the future strategic direction of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and strengthening cooperation with Egypt and support its reform efforts.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister for Tourism Affairs, the Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs, the Economic Adviser to the Minister, the President of the Egyptian Federation of Tourism Chambers, the Managing Director of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean Region at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Deputy Head of the Bank’s office in Egypt, and the Director of the Bank’s Property and Tourism Department.
During the meeting, a number of topics were discussed, including the development of a mechanism for cooperation in the field of developing and raising the efficiency of tourism services provided to visitors in museums and archaeological sites, enhancing accessible services and making them available to people of determination in tourist and archaeological sites, in addition to discussing ways of cooperation in the field of promoting green tourism in Egypt and creating products and services. Environmentally friendly and cooperation in the field of safe disposal of waste, recycling, use of renewable energy and others.
This comes - according to Monday's statement - within the framework of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities' keenness to support responsible and sustainable ecotourism, which aims to preserve the environment for a green transformation, in addition to the Ministry's keenness to raise awareness of all aspects related to tourism, which is also one of the Ministry's strategic objectives to achieve Sustainable development, which is done through preparing and organizing programs and initiatives to shed light on the best practices that allow everyone to enjoy Egypt’s unique ingredients, but in a responsible manner, to ensure the sustainability of tourism activity and enhance the competitiveness of the Egyptian destination.
They also discussed setting a plan for human resource development by organizing training courses for employees of the ministry, in addition to cooperating in the field of quality health, food safety and hygiene in the hospitality sector by organizing intensive training programs for workers in this field.
It is worth noting that there is an existing cooperation between the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in many areas through the grant whose agreement was signed in January 2021, as there is cooperation in restructuring the Supreme Council of Antiquities in cooperation with the World Tourism Organization, and developing a plan for resource development Humanity by organizing training courses for the Ministry's employees.
