The City of Fustat... the oldest Islamic capital in the world "love, tolerance and peace"

About two miles from Cairo, there is one of the first and oldest Islamic capitals, which is located on the coast of the Nile at its northeastern tip, close to the Babylon fortress, the only building that existed in the area at that time, is the city of "Fustat".

The city of Fustat was chosen by Amr Ibn Al-Aas to become the capital of Islamic Egypt after the Caliph Omar Ibn Al-Khattab refused to take Alexandria as the capital of the country, which was the capital of Egypt during the era of the Ptolemies and the Romans. Egypt, which was later known as the "Ancient Mosque".

The urban expansion continued in the city until there were many lanes, alleys and paths, and because of its location on the Nile, it later became a major center for foreign maritime trade, and a port for trade coming from “China, India, Yemen and Europe”, in addition to being the main center for water transport, and the city remained a prosperous capital for Egypt throughout 113 years old


The city, which is now known as the "Old Cairo District", one of the oldest neighborhoods in Greater Cairo, was distinguished by many archaeological monuments, such as the excavations of the ruins of the city of Fustat, the Nilometer on Rawda Island, the Manasterly Palace, and the Muhammad Ali Palace in Manial. Under the slogan of tolerance, love, peace and embracing the heavenly religions, we find The Ben Ezra Synagogue, the churches of ancient Egypt, and the Amr Ibn Al-Aas Mosque.

The city remained the prosperous capital of Egypt for 113 years, creating a history of urban and economic glory, documenting one of the most important stages of the unique Islamic history in Egypt, declaring that Fustat is one of the most prominent Islamic cities and capitals in Egypt.
