Women also have a history in medicine. Since the well-known Greek doctor Hippocrates grew up in it, many women have shown a desire to enter that world, which was restricted to men for centuries.

According to Use Medical, one of the first women known in medicine as mentioned in historical records is Metrodora, also known as Cleopatra Metrodora, who was of Egyptian origin and lived in Greece around the seventh century AD.

In addition to being an accomplished gynecologist, the innovative midwife and surgeon "Metrodora" has authored many books, including a prominent book on the uterus, abdomen and kidneys, and gynecological diseases and their treatment, in which she explained the details of diseases that usually affect women.

There is also the doctor Espasia, who was famous in ancient Greece, and Metrodora and Aspasia rose to high ranks in the medical field by performing innovative surgeries, such as uterine hemorrhoids, varicose veins and plastic surgeries.

And to Egyptian history, where Merit Ptah is known as the first female doctor who held the position of chief physician in the royal court in 2700 BC during the era of the Egyptian dynasties, and Peseshet was another doctor known as the “Supervisor of Female Doctors” in the early dynastic period in Egypt around 2500 BC. Cited as the first female doctor in the era of the pharaohs.

Many women working in medicine in the ancient world were excluded from official records even when the rest of the data and correspondence are well preserved.

But the interesting thing is that there are records of many women who practiced medicine by impersonating men. One of these stories is about Agnodice, or Agnodice, who was known as the first female doctor or midwife in ancient Greece (in the fourth century BC).

Agnodas practiced medicine disguised as a man, but was later found and criminalized. Her patients objected to her trial and she was acquitted. After her trial, the law that prevented women from practicing medicine was repealed in ancient Greece.
