The Egyptian state pays great attention to the development of archaeological areas and museums, which bear the fragrance of ancient Egyptian history, and among those sites is the development of the wall of the stream of El-Ayoun, where the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities continues the work of developing and restoring the wall and the area on an ongoing basis to complete them according to the timetable set in 2021, in The framework of the ministry's project to restore the historical wall and the surrounding area, and for this we publish a promotional video of what happened in the area, which has turned into an important tourist attraction and will soon become one of the most important tourist and entertainment places in Cairo.


The wall of the El-Ayyun stream is located in the Citadel and Old Cairo, it is one of the most famous walls of historical Cairo, and the wall of the El-Ayyun stream dates back to the era of the Ayyubid state. Hegira / 1169 AD to the year 589 AH / 1193 AD, then Sultan Al-Nasir Muhammad bin Qalawun renewed it completely in the year 712 AH - 1312 AD.

The idea of ​​constructing a wall for Cairo came to start near Fustat and to place a stream or channel above it for water that the drivers raise from one of the wells to go through this channel until it reaches the castle, where it is used for watering and irrigating the plants around the castle area, and the fence of the eye stream or al-Ghuri aqueduct, containing aqueducts to transport water. And it stretches for a length of 2,800 meters, from the mouth of the Gulf, to the Bab al-Qarafa area, in Mrs.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has prepared a wall development plan that includes the transfer of the occupants of the areas surrounding the wall from workshops, factories and units located in the Mahar El-Ayoun Wall area, taking all necessary measures to approve the development plan and finalizing all approvals and permits for this, in addition to preparing the main facilities necessary for the project at the borders of the development area referred to, a measure The sums required to disburse the remaining cash compensation to the occupants of the workshops, factories and units located in Surmjra El-Ayoun.

The Ministry started its work from the site of the water intake building located in the mouth of the Gulf overlooking the Nile River, and the maintenance of the models of the drivers erected at the top of the building. The bay until Sayyida Aisha Square, to raise the water to the gathering tanks inside the castle through the water transmission wheels.

The project aims to develop the wall of the stream of El-Ayoun to revive this historical region and re-highlight its cultural splendor, with its cultural value, representing a new addition to the map of archaeological and tourist destinations in Egypt, and the project is part of a comprehensive vision of restoring Cairo as a city of heritage and arts, and a center of civilization and cultural radiation. It is a major tourist destination in the regional and global circles.

The idea of ​​development is based on creating a linkage axis from north to south linking the geographical space of Historic Cairo with its historical metropolises by supporting the merging of several commercial, crafts, tourism and cultural activities along this axis, to confirm the historical continuity of Historic Cairo, and allows for the first time to enjoy more than 313 monuments recorded in the scope of Historic Cairo, in addition to working to strengthen the link between the site and the historic areas surrounding it through clean, varied and integrated public transport systems that allow more sustainable transportation, such as panoramic electric buses, pedestrian and bicycle traffic, and reduce the need to use private cars in transportation.

The general plan for the design idea of ​​the development project also includes the establishment of a culture and art area, which will provide spaces for use as an open theater, theaters and cinemas, in addition to a museum and exhibitions for plastic arts, a public library, a hall for seminars and conferences, in addition to places designated for folkloric performances, a center for the kinetic arts, as well as Establishing an area for recreational and tourist services that includes a number of restaurants, open spaces and squares, with a focus on attracting the quality of restaurants that offer traditional Egyptian cuisine, to other Arab and international kitchens.
