AIRO - 15 March 2023: Volume of investments of banks operating in the local market in securities and treasury bills (T-bills) amounted to about LE 4.428 trillion at the end of December 2022, compared to about LE 4.058 trillion at the end of September, marking an increase of about LE 370 billion.
This came in a report issued by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) on Wednesday.
The CBE stated that the volume of investments of the largest 10 banks in these instruments amounted to about LE 3.533 trillion, while it amounted to about LE 3.217 trillion for the largest five banks.
According to the Central Bank, the percentage of the banks’ securities portfolio, not including treasury bills, increased to 27.5 percent of the total assets in banks at the end of December 2022, compared to 25 percent at the end of September 2022, and this percentage reached 30 percent for the largest 10 banks, and 31.6 percent for the largest five banks.
On another hand, the CBE revealed that the net profits of banks operating in the Egyptian market increased to about LE 130.844 billion at the end of December 2022, compared to LE 93.396 billion at the end of September 2022, according to the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE).
It stated the banks’ net revenues amounted to about LE 331.202 billion at the end of December, compared to LE 225.807 billion at the end of September.
