Egypt’s FM calls for Israeli withdrawal from Gaza in call with US counterpart

CAIRO – 2 October 2025: Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty received a phone call from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday to discuss the ongoing war in Gaza and efforts toward a comprehensive solution.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the official spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry, stated that the U.S. Secretary of State reviewed the components of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to halt the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, secure the release of hostages, ensure aid delivery, prevent annexation or displacement, and outline the steps proposed by the U.S. President yesterday.

Secretary Rubio expressed the United States’ desire to intensify and sustain joint coordination with Egypt in the coming phase to stop the war, praising Egypt's leading role in achieving peace and stability in the region.


Minister Abdelatty, in response, expressed appreciation for President Trump’s sincere efforts to end the war, welcoming the initiatives put forth by the U.S. He voiced Egypt’s hope for a swift halt to the war in Gaza and de-escalation to restore calm, stability, and security to the region.

Abdelatty stressed the fundamental requirements of Egypt's position, including:

- The necessity of unhindered humanitarian aid access in quantities commensurate with the humanitarian catastrophe.

- The withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip.

- Preventing the annexation of the West Bank and affirming its organic link with the Gaza Strip.

- Preventing any displacement of the Palestinian people from their land.

The importance of creating a political horizon based on the two-state solution that fulfills the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, primarily their right to self-determination and the establishment of their own state, thereby achieving security, peace, and stability for both the Palestinian and Israeli peoples.
