The Egyptian Committee in the Gaza Strip is surveying and assessing damaged, cracked and structurally compromised buildings across the enclave as part of efforts to protect residents and reduce the risk of building collapses.
The assessments are being conducted in preparation for the rehabilitation or demolition of buildings, where necessary, in line with established engineering standards.
Moein Abu Al-Hussein, executive director of the Egyptian Committee in Gaza, told Youm7 on Sunday that the committee was intensifying efforts to identify and evaluate buildings at risk of collapse.
The initiative is aimed at protecting residents and mitigating risks associated with structural failures, particularly ahead of the winter season and the possibility of severe weather conditions.
Abu Al-Hussein said the assessments would help determine whether individual structures should be reinforced, rehabilitated or demolished based on engineering evaluations.
The measures are also intended to reduce the risk of collapses caused or worsened by harsh winter conditions.
