CAIRO – 23 November 2020: Egypt’s Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation declared its readiness to receive the rainy season and floods expected this winter, said Minister Mohamed Abdel-Atti in a statement.

He added that the ministry and its branches will work around the clock to ensure the performance and efficiency of the stations, and to carry out the necessary maintenance.

In September 2020, the Ministry declared a state of emergency when the Nile water inflow to Egypt increased due to the increasing torrential rains that caused human and financial casualties in Sudan.

In October, Egyptian governorates such as the Red Sea and South Sinai was hit by rainwater. Torrential rains fell on Mount Catherine and Jabal Abbas forming accumulated water in Arbaeen Valley, where the water direction was diverted in some areas to protect the surrounding facilities.
