Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The two ministers highlighted the depth and importance of Egyptian-Jordanian relations and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation. They also discussed advancing the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Egypt, Jordan and Iraq in ways that serve the shared interests of the three countries.
The talks also focused on developments related to the Palestinian cause, including efforts to complete the implementation of President Donald Trump’s plan, consolidate stability in the Gaza Strip and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid. The ministers also discussed developments in the West Bank.
Abdelatty and Safadi rejected policies of annexation and settlement expansion, as well as settler violence, and stressed the need to preserve the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem.
Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for Jordan’s Hashemite custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites.
The two ministers exchanged views on broader regional developments and stressed the importance of de-escalation, respect for the sovereignty of states and the preservation of their territorial integrity.
They also condemned Iranian attacks targeting Jordan and other Arab countries. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Jordan in confronting any attacks that threaten its security and sovereignty.
