Egypt And China Discuss Deeper Strategic Partnership, Stronger Parliamentary Cooperation
High-level meetings in Beijing focused on expanding political and parliamentary coordination, economic ties and cooperation on issues of mutual interest.

Egypt and China discussed ways to deepen their strategic partnership and strengthen parliamentary cooperation during high-level meetings in Beijing involving Egypt’s Senate President Essam Farid.
High-Level Egyptian Delegation
Farid, who is leading an official delegation to China that includes Senate Secretary-General Ahmed Abdel Ghany and Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Mohamed Kamal, held meetings with senior Chinese officials, including the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and the chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
Deepening Political and Parliamentary Cooperation
The meetings focused on advancing political and parliamentary cooperation between Egypt and China, as well as strengthening coordination on issues of mutual interest.
Farid described Egypt-China relations as being built on a long history of cooperation, coordination and mutual trust, highlighting the importance of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
He also expressed Egypt’s readiness to work with China to implement understandings reached between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Chinese President Xi Jinping, with the aim of further developing bilateral political, economic and development cooperation.
Egypt’s Position
Farid reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the One-China principle and respect for China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while stressing Egypt’s opposition to interference in the internal affairs of states.
The Senate president also called for continued coordination and mutual support between Cairo and Beijing on regional and international issues of common interest.
Trade, Investment and Tourism
The discussions touched on the growth of bilateral trade and investment, as well as the increasing number of Chinese tourists visiting Egypt.

Farid also highlighted the importance of continued Chinese support for Egypt’s water interests, particularly regarding the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. He stressed Egypt’s commitment to reaching a legally binding agreement on the dam’s filling and operation that safeguards the interests and rights of all parties and contributes to regional stability.
Parliamentary Cooperation
The meetings also addressed parliamentary cooperation between Egypt’s Senate and China’s National People’s Congress and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, including the exchange of expertise and experience in areas of common interest.
Chinese Position
The Chinese side expressed its readiness to work with Egypt to implement the understandings reached by President El-Sisi and President Xi, while also expressing an understanding of the importance of the Nile River to Egypt and the need to take Egyptian interests into account.

Visit Follows Xi Jinping’s Egypt Trip
The visit comes shortly after President Xi Jinping’s visit to Egypt earlier this month, during which he met with President El-Sisi. The visit highlighted the depth of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Cairo and Beijing and the two countries’ interest in expanding cooperation across multiple fields.
