CAIRO – 24 September 2025: Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly had a meeting on Tuesday with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides at the UN headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Christodoulides conveyed warm greetings to his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El Sisi and expressed eagerness for an upcoming meeting between both of them. He also welcomed a planned Egypt-EU summit and said Cyprus’s presidency of the EU Council in early 2026 would provide an opportunity to bolster ties with Egypt.
The Cypriot president expressed his desire to finalize a long-awaited strategic partnership agreement with Egypt, in line with directives from both countries’ leaderships during their summit in January. He stressed the importance of turning strong political ties into tangible progress in investment, trade, and implementation of bilateral agreements and MoUs.
For his part, Madbouly praised Cyprus’s continued support for Egypt within EU institutions and its alignment with Egyptian positions on regional issues. He emphasized Egypt’s interest in deepening energy cooperation, particularly in natural gas exploration involving Cyprus and Italy’s Eni, due to its strategic and mutual benefits.
Madbouly also invited further economic collaboration, noting that President Sisi is committed to advancing the historical and strategic relationship with Cyprus, especially in the economic domain.
He expressed Egypt’s desire to welcome President Christodoulides and his spouse in Cairo on November 1, for the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, following an invitation from President Sisi.
