CAIRO – 12 May 2025: Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty received Ambassador Tariq Albanai, Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations in New York and Head of the Intergovernmental Negotiations (IGN) on Security Council Reform, on Sunday.
Minister Abdelatty praised Kuwait’s leadership in chairing the IGN process over the past years and during the current session of the UN General Assembly. He also expressed appreciation for Ambassador Albanai’s visit to Cairo as part of his regional tour.
Reaffirming Egypt’s firm position on the need to reform the UN Security Council, the Minister stressed that Egypt’s stance is rooted in the unified African position as outlined in the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration, as well as the core principles of the Arab position on the matter.
Minister Abdelatty also reiterated Egypt’s support for the efforts of the African Union’s "Committee of Ten," chaired by Sierra Leone, which is mandated with promoting and defending Africa’s common position in the ongoing negotiations for Security Council reform.
