Pres. Sisi discusses enhancing cooperation with Speaker of Hungarian National Assembly

CAIRO - 27 April 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly László Kövér on Sunday. Both sides held talks on means of boosting bilateral relations and Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reinstate the ceasefire in the besieged Gaza Strip.

The meeting was also attended by Speaker of the House of Representatives, Counsellor Hanafy Gebaly.

Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the president welcomed the speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, expressing appreciation for the strategic partnership between Egypt and Hungary, which is founded upon the robust historical relations between the two countries. The president emphasized mutual commitment to developing and further advancing this partnership in an array of sectors, including the parliamentary domain, for the shared benefit of the two countries.

President Sisi lauded the growing momentum in parliamentary cooperation between the two countries, affirming the significant role of the respective parliaments in promoting dialogue and coordination on issues of mutual concern.

The president emphasized the need to strengthen efforts to achieve mutual interests, with a focus on bolstering economic cooperation between Egypt and Hungary. The President commended Hungary’s valuable role in support of Egypt within the various institutions of the European Union, while also lauding the ongoing understanding and coordination between both countries’ leaderships, which are based on mutual respect and the pursuit of common interests.

Moreover, he reviewed Egypt's efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the necessity to intensify efforts to ensure the resumption of the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and the exchange of hostages and detainees, in addition to delivering humanitarian aid to the strip in sufficient quantities to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation endured by Palestinians.

The speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly expressed appreciation for Egypt’s vital role in achieving regional security and stability. He stressed his country's commitment to enhancing cooperation with Egypt across various levels, considering it a key partner of Hungary and the European Union in the Middle East.

He also commended Egypt's pivotal role in addressing regional issues that affect European security, particularly its efforts to restore calm in the region, prevent the expansion of the conflict, and combat illegal migration and terrorism.
