Pres. Sisi, EU commissioner discuss illegal migration, Middle East developments

CAIRO – 3 March 2025: President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi received Sunday EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Suica. The two sides held talks on tackling root causes for illegal migration and the latest developments in the Middle East.

During the meeting, both parties discussed devising a comprehensive mechanism that effectively tackles illegal migration, highlighting that lack of development remains one of the strongest driving forces behind this phenomenon.

Additionally, President Sisi reviewed the latest updates in the Gaza Strip, and Cairo’s efforts to ensure the full implementation of the ceasefire agreement, including the hostage-prisoner swap, and supply of humanitarian aid. On top of ongoing endeavors to kick start the strip’s reconstruction without displacing Palestinian residents.

The Egyptian president equally stressed the importance of the EU's support to initiatives aimed at reinstating pacification and stability in the region, as well as to the two-state solution in order to guarantee permanent peace in the Middle East.

The two sides similarly exchanged views on chaos in Libya, Sudan, and Syria. On another level, the EU commissioner asserted keenness on bilateral relations, expressing desire to boost trade exchange and investments.
