CAIRO – 26 February 2025: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration, Badr Abdelatty, underlined the need to address migration issue and uproot illegal immigration, during a call on Tuesday with European Commission’s Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner.
Minister Abdelatty congratulated the European commissioner on assuming his new position, stressing Egypt’s keenness to boost cooperation with the European Union to face illegal immigration.
Moreover, he highlighted Egypt’s successful experience on putting an end to Europe-bound illegal immigration from Egypt since 2016, shedding light on the THAMM Plus program “EU Support to legal migration, mobility and skills Partnerships with North of African countries,” which is a sub-regional program funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Labor Organization (ILO) for 48 months (2024-2027) to strengthen the employability of potential migrant workers and regular and sustainable labor mobility pathways leading to decent work opportunities between Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia and European Union member states.
Abdelatty also emphasized the challenges and burdens borne by Egypt because of hosting some 100 million refugees and immigrants amid low international support.
