CAIRO - 28 March 2023: Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi directed the government and state agencies on Monday to study the proposal by the National Dialogue Initiative to allow full judicial supervision on elections in Egypt.
On Sunday, the Board of Trustees of the National Dialogue Initiative submitted its first legislative proposal to the President, requiring the extension of full judicial supervision of elections and referendums to cover the 2024 presidential elections.
According to a statement by the Board of Trustees, there is consensus in the Board of Trustees that article 34 of the National Election Authority law needs to be updated because it becomes void in January 2024.
The article stipulates that all polls are supervised by the judiciary for 10 years from upholding the 2014 constitution.
The Board of Trustees, which convened on Sunday, will resume its meetings on May 3, following the holiday of Eid Al-Fitr.
Meanwhile, it will continue to create “positive conditions” for the National dialogue to thrive. It will also contact many factions and public figures for more inclusivity.
