CAIRO – 11 October 2021: Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah el Sisi will head, Monday to the Hungarian capital, Budapest, to participate in Visegrad Group summit, which includes Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland.

According to Presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady, this is the sound time for Egypt’s President Sisi to take part in Visegrad gathering after 2017, which reflects the keenness of the two sides to develop relations between them and discuss various issues of common interest.

The summit is scheduled to address number of issues, including Egypt’s role in the Middle East, cooperation in the fight against terrorism and illegal immigration, energy security, and discuss opportunities to develop trade, investment and tourism relations between the two sides, as well as ways to develop cooperation between Egypt and the European Union.

Rady also stated that President Sisi’s visit to Budapest will also witness intensive bilateral talks with senior Hungarian officials, led by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Hungarian President Janos Ader, to discuss strengthening political and economic relations between the two countries, as well as cooperation and coordination at the international and regional levels.

in July 2017, President Sisi head to Budapest for the first time to participate in the summit.

The Visegrad Group – which groups Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic – was formed in 1991 with the aim of having member countries work together in a number of fields of common interest within the all-European integration.

Egypt was the first Middle East State and the third non-member State to be invited to participate in a Visegrad Group summit – after Japan and Germany.

During the 3-day visit in 2017, Sisi visited the unknown Soldier Memorial in Hungary. He was also given a red-carpet reception and reviewed the guards of honor and the military band played the national anthems of both countries.

President Sisi had talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán on boosting bilateral ties in all fields. The two sides also discussed bilateral coordination at regional and international gatherings. They also exchanged views on a gamut of issues of mutual interest, particularly the developments in the Middle East region.

Both leaders held a joint press conference where el Sisi said Egypt’s leadership is not the only party combating terrorism, but also the whole nation is standing against this phenomenon. The Hungarian premier hailed the efforts exerted by President Sisi to establish an independent national strategy. He asserted that Hungary's interest lies in Egypt's stability not only in the military aspect but also the economic one.

President Sisi also participated in the Egyptian-Hungarian business forum during his visit.
