CAIRO - 7 August 2020: The Egyptian Senate election, due to kick off on Sunday for Egyptian expatriates in 124 countries, will be conducted via the mail, according to the National Election Authority (NEA).
The voters are not allowed to go to the embassies in the countries where they live to cast their ballots.
The decision has taken into consideration the restrictions and precautionary measures taken in most countries in light of the coronavirus pandemic, which would hinder the Egyptian voters’ attendance at the embassies’ premises.
Egypt’s ambassador to Algeria Ayman Mesharafa said Friday that preparations for holding the first round of the Egyptian Senate elections were finalized.
Egyptian expats living abroad are expected to cast their ballots on August 9-10.
Speaking to MENA, Mesharafa said that all Egyptians, who have valid passport or national ID and registered in the voters' lists, are entitled to cast their ballots in the elections.
Casting ballots will be conducted through the mail as part of the precautionary and protective coronavirus-related measures, implemented by the National Elections Authority.
