Mallawi Museum was established on June 23, 1962 in Minya during the era of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser. It consisted of two floors with 4 halls in which the Pharaonic, Greek, Roman, and Coptic monuments were exhibited, the effects of mountain tuna, the Asmunites, Tel Amarna, and the effects of Middle Egypt. year 2013.

The museum needed more than 3 years for restoration and development, and the museum includes 944 antiquities, including 441 old pieces and 503 new pieces from Bahnasa, Ashmouni and Minya stores. The total cost of museum development work reached 11 million pounds distributed between Minya Governorate, which provided one million pounds and 150,000 from The credits of the governorate, in addition to an Italian grant valued at 4 million pounds in the form of showcases for the museum's display in the framework of the debt swap project

The scenario of the exhibition inside the museum was changed to start with a statue of the family, which is the community column. The exhibition halls include only 3 halls, and the fourth hall has been transformed into a place for educational activities for children, in addition to a scientific research library to serve students of Minia and Assiut University, especially archeology students in various colleges, and a lecture hall has also been added. The museum's new administration found that the role of the community museum should be revitalized, and the museum was reopened on September 22, 2017.
