On May 21, President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi and U.S. President Donald Trump met with while in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the Arab Islamic American Summit.
Building on President Sisi’s visit to the U.S. in April and ongoing discussions between the two countries, the meeting reinforced the U.S.’s commitment to Egypt’s security, stability and prosperity. President Trump praised President Sisi, saying that he has “done a tremendous job under trying circumstance.”
In a statement, the White House emphasized the benefits of long standing military cooperation between the U.S. and Egypt, and highlighted the need for “deeper cooperation to address the root causes of terrorism and extremism.” The White House’s statement continued to say that both countries are committed to addressing critical issues in a “renewed spirit of mutual respect and open cooperation.”
During the meeting, President Trump also affirmed a future visit to Egypt, “I will get to Egypt. We will absolutely be putting that on the list very soon.”
