President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received Cypriot Defense Minister Vasilis Palmas on Monday in Cairo, in the presence of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Minister of Defense and Military Production General Ashraf Salem Zaher.
During the meeting, Sisi welcomed the Cypriot minister and stressed the importance of the close relations between Egypt and Cyprus, highlighting the need to deepen their strategic partnership and expand cooperation across various fields, particularly in security and defense.
Sisi also conveyed his greetings to Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides.
The meeting also addressed trilateral cooperation between Egypt, Cyprus and Greece, which Sisi described as an important mechanism for promoting security, stability and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean while addressing shared challenges.
For his part, Palmas conveyed Christodoulides’ greetings to Sisi and emphasized the importance Cyprus attaches to its close cooperation with Egypt. He also highlighted the continued development of political, economic and military coordination between the two countries.
The Cypriot defense minister praised Egypt’s role in efforts to reduce regional tensions and promote peace and stability, stressing Cyprus’ interest in strengthening coordination with Cairo on shared challenges, particularly in the Mediterranean.
Palmas also commended Egypt’s role in addressing irregular migration.
