CAIRO – 23 July 2025: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to enhance Egypt's regional and global position as he marked the 73rd anniversary of the July 23 Revolution.
“We recall an immortal scene in our nation's history that embodied the dreams and aspirations of Egyptians for development, dignity, and independence,” Sisi said in a social media post on Wednesday.
“As we celebrate this cherished anniversary today, we honor the sacrifices of the heroes who believed in the rights of Egyptians to progress and freedom, with an unwavering will and unrelenting determination.”
The 23 July Revolution was led by the Free Officers Movement headed by Mohamed Naguib and Gamal Abdel Nasser—who later became presidents.
This historic revolution garnered significant public support, resulting in the overthrow of King Farouk and the end of Mohamed Ali Dynasty that ruled Egypt since the eighties, hence ending the monarchy and leading to Egypt’s declaration as a republic.
On this occasion, Sisi issued a decree pardoning many prisoners.
The whole nation is celebrating the revolution’s anniversary with the government granting a paid holiday for both the public and private sector employees on Thursday, instead of Wednesday, allowing citizens to enjoy a longer weekend.
The president delivered a video statement posted today to commemorate the occasion, emphasizing that the 1952 Revolution marked “a turning point in the nation’s journey.”
“It ended the odious era of occupation, established values of pride, dignity, and independence, and illuminated the path of liberation in third-world countries and our Arab region,” the president said.
He stated that the revolution became “an inspiration for liberation from colonialism and for national decision-making independence.”
