CAIRO- 27 April 2025: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi delegated Osama El-Azhari, Minister of Endowments, to attend the funeral of the late Pope Francis, Pope of the Vatican.
The Minister of Endowments mourned with deep sorrow and grief the passing of Pope Francis, Pope of the Vatican, after a career filled with generosity and noble humanitarian efforts. Azhari offered his sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Catholic Church and all its followers around the world.
El-Azhari emphasized that Pope Francis was a unique figure in his generosity, a global symbol in defending human values, and an exemplary model of devotion to the cause of peace.
He noted that the late Pope had written shining pages in the history of understanding and rapprochement between peoples, and sincerely sought to build bridges of love and tolerance among followers of different religions.
Around 200,000 people gathered in St. Peter’s Square to mark the death of Pope Francis, the first Latin American pontiff, according to the Vatican, as reported by CNN.
The funeral began on Saturday with a solemn and elaborate set of rituals in the square, six days after Pope Francis made his final public appearance during Easter celebrations.
Among the attendees were 130 official delegations, including world leaders and reigning monarchs. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.S. President Donald Trump met ahead of the funeral, according to the Ukrainian presidency.
Italian President Sergio Mattarella and French President Emmanuel Macron were also present at the ceremony.
